It was the NBA (like so many other fans all over the world) that drove Ray Prados to discover more and more sneaker models.

What was first a serious interest soon became a passion and years later he decided to create Pisadas (that’s footprint in Spanish), his own web space to express his craze for the sneaker world.

We talked with Ray Prados about his blog, the sneaker scene in Spain, and the industry.

Read below.

Who is Ray Prados?

He is man of 38 years old who works as an editorial designer, although I really started printing and then I went to the design world. I live and enjoy living in Sevilla, but I was born in Villanueva de la Serena (Badajoz). In my spare time I edit the blog sneaker Pisadas, which was not my first choice when I decided to blog, but now I’m glad I picked this option.

Please tell us of just how you became a sneaker fan…

Since I was a teenager I always have been a basketball fan, so I guess that like many others I tried to always have the big shoes of all NBA great players and also of some Spanish crack player such as Jordi Villacampa.

How is to be a fan of sneakers in Spain? Is there a consistent sneakerhead community?

It depends on the area you live. In Seville, until very recently we did not see anyone with sneakers. Unless you were a foreigner. Now the situation has changed, in every city there are good shoes stores and online you can get everything.

Ray Prados | Pisadas Blog

Where can we find a greater community? In Barcelona, Madrid?

I am from Seville and here I know there are many sneaker fans, but between Madrid and Barcelona… I guess it’s in Barcelona since it is closer to the sea and the temperatures become warmer, but I’ve just come from Madrid and I would say 50% of people wear sneakers.

What about the Spanish brands? Is there a Spanish shoe brand the world really should know about?

Here two things happen, that may result from the other, and we tend to like most of what comes out that what is at your fingertips, but here we hadgood brands of shoes, but now have fallen sharply firms shoes and come out footwear brands has to get good shoes. Currently Muro.exe the applause. They really are a hybrid, but the delight of the world of sneakers in Spain.

What do you find most interesting about all this industry? The overwhelming pace of releases, brands?

Every day new models come and in a year not to remember many of them also leave thousands of collaborations, many of them do not make sense and they have it fall into the hands of resellers, so prices soar. I believe that brands should look at this from collaborations.

Ray Prados | Pisadas Blog

Please share with us about a brand that is currently discovering…

Muro.exe made sneakers with materials and premium design. They have sold all their first collections and are expanding fast. The team is above all the manufacturing process.

What about your sneaker collection?

I do not really collect, accumulate. I use all the shoes I have, yes, the care and when I stop to put them on the gift, unless they are a model that has had any special experience.

You are connected with this industry on a daily basis – How do you foresee the future?

It seems that leaves us running and reaches the tenis, but I think it will not be for long. One thing I like is that every time the collections are more complete and not only bring shoes, begin to get into the same clothes and accessories online.

Undisciplined aesthetic, an abrupt fusion between classic and contemporary, Thorocraft’s creations are all this and much more.

The California brand has been proudly delivering surprising models ever since it was founded, back in 2009. This is the Davis Blue Leopard, a model made with suede and leather, and that relies on the heavy contrast between black, blue and dark pink for its visual burst. Properly named ‘Blue Leopard’ the Davis portrays the sudden visual rehearsal on a leopard print. Leather lining, a choice of black and blue laces and a leather black panel complete the silhouette.

Thorocraft’s Davis Blue Leopard is currently available at CRNFRD.

‘A search for a pair of Air Force 1’s turned into an obsession’, that could very well be one way of telling the story of Emil Sugiarto, better known as Nedsrock.

Based in Indonesia, Emil is one of the proud members of the Indo Sneaker Team, a collective of like-minded individuals whose mission is to spread the word and the knowledge about the sneaker game.

From the first sneakers to the growing sneaker scene and the plans to open his sneaker shop in Indonesia, these were just some of the topics of a clear-cut interview.

What’s your story? When did you first became interested in sneakers?

I have always been a fan of sneakers since I was a kid. I only started collecting in 2009, after I got my first job and was able to save up for myself. I was looking for an all white Nike Air Force 1 Low and I found a sneaker community in a local forum in Indonesia. In a way, I made many good friends through sneakers and in 2011 we created Indonesia Sneaker Team [IST].

What do you do for a living – do you manage to wear sneakers everyday?

Fortunately, I am working in a family business which happens to be in a casual environment. So yeah, I can wear my sneakers everyday.

About brands – what is your ultimate favorite brand?

At first I buy and collect any brands but starting 2010 I decided to only buy and collect Nike.

I think we should really look into Adidas in the next 5 years. It will be interesting to see what they are planning and how they will execute it. They have great endorsement contracts in athletes and celebrities. Derrick Rose, Kanye West, Pharrell, David Beckham, Messi, you name it.

nedsrock collection

Regarding the whole sneaker business – what’s your opinion about the hype?

The hype is part of the game. It’s good for business and it’s really good for collectors who wanna cash out. Another good thing is if there’s not much hype around a sneaker, I can get them for a lower price.

Please share with us about the sneaker scene in Indonesia, community, events, you name it…

The sneaker scene in Indonesia now is growing very rapidly together with the growth of social media. We could see this from the fanpage of Indonesia Sneaker Team [IST] which now has so many followers compared to last year.  Sneaker-oriented events are popping up all the time too. On the other side, we don’t get many releases here which is quite frustrating.

What’s the most fascinating thing about the sneaker world for you?

I think all sneakerheads that grew up watching the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan in the 90s, and rappers like Nelly and Jay Z rocking all white Air Force 1s would agree with me that it’s the hunt of that special pair and the history behind it. It makes it so much more valuable to me knowing that it brings back something from the past.

I’m really excited about today’s sneaker scene with younger kids going crazy over retro Jordans, it makes me want them even more.

Please share with us about three of the most important models that you currently own.

I am crazy about Nike Air Force 1. My top three sneakers that I own got to be the Nike AF1 Low 1World ‘Kaws’ which I rock on my wedding day. You would call me insane if you know what I traded to get my hands on those. Next is the Nike AF1 Low 1World ‘Gore Texer’ Nitro Digi Camo and last but not least is Nike AF1 Low X Mad Hectic.

What are your thoughts about the future of the sneaker business? Namely in terms of innovation, brands.

It’s a really bright future for sports giants like Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Puma, etc. Looking at what’s been happening and the hype of the sneaker scene in the last two years I believe this will last for a while. Nike is strong in almost all categories from Basketball, Sportswear, and Running. The Flyknits and Roshe Runs are crazy. Adidas with their non-stop collaborations with big names like Mastermind Japan, Undefeated, Kanye West, Pharrell, etc.

As a matter of fact I am actually starting up a sneaker store in Jakarta (Indonesia). Like I mentioned, in Indonesia, we don’t get many releases and I decided to try my luck to help put Indonesia in the sneaker map. Nike Indonesia has been very supportive in this so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
